Overview

Bethany Lutheran College, BLC, operates as a private, residential liberal arts college. Its history goes back to 1911 when the Bethany Ladies College began. It was purchased by the American Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1927 as a high school and junior college. The Bethany High School closed in 1969, while the Bethany Junior College continued to grow and made its transition in 2001 when it started awarding baccalaureate degrees.

BLC offers programs in arts and humanities, math and science, communication, health and human performance, social and behavioral science, and religious studies. The college participates in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (NCAA Division III), in sports like golf, baseball, tennis, basketball, cross country and volleyball. Its athletic teams are called the Vikings.
