Overview
Boston College, or BC, was founded by the Society of Jesus as a liberal arts college. It opened its doors in 1863. The college enrolled 22 students in its first year. It was chartered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The campus of BC is spread over 380 acres in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, and is an example of the earliest Collegiate Gothic architecture in North America. The academic units of BC are organized into the following divisions:
