Overview
California College of the Arts, also known as CCA, is located in Oakland, California, United States. It was founded in 1907 by Frederick Meyer as the School of the California Guild of Arts and Crafts. The school was renamed California School of Arts and Crafts in 1908. It was renamed again to California College of Arts and Crafts in 1936. The college received its present name in 2003. The college campus covers approximately four acres in Oakland, and it has another campus in San Francisco.
The college's students are involved in several clubs and organizations including the American Institute of Architecture Students, Cossutius Colony of Alpha Rho Chi Fraternity, Asian Student Association, Film and Video Society, International Interior Design Association, Spanish Club, and The Entertainment Design Guild.
Some famous alumni of CCA are eminent personalities such as Jules de Balincourt, a French painter; Lee Walton, an American artist; Joseph Del Pesco, contemporary art curator; John McCracken, an American artist; and many others.
