The California Institute of the Arts, also known as CalArts, is located in Valencia, California in the USA. The institute was established in 1961, and is spread across an area of 60 acres. CalArts offers degree programs in music, art, dance, film and video, animation, theater, puppetry, and writing. It also provides specialized courses in interdisciplinary and contemporary art. CalArts operates over five schools which include:
- School of Art
- School of Critical Studies: Sharon Lund School of Dance
- School of Film/ Video
- Herb Alpert School of Music
- School of Theater
CalArts also operates a Center for Experiments in Art, Information and Technology also known as CEAIT. There are several student organizations operated by the college which are the Latino Student Union, Asian Student Union, Environmental Fun Club and Hip Hop Club. ‘CalArts’ magazine is published twice during the academic year.
