Cardinal Stritch University was established in 1937 as the St. Clare College. It was founded by the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi. In 1946, it was renamed Cardinal Stritch College. The college was named after the archbishop of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Samuel Cardinal Stritch of Chicago. It achieved university status in 1997 and settled on its present name at that time. The main campus is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In addition, it has campuses in Kenosha, Wisconsin and Edina, Minnesota. Stritch is divided into the following colleges:
- College of Arts and Sciences
- College of Business and Management
- College of Education and Leadership
- Ruth S. Coleman College of Nursing
Stritch includes more than 20 on-campus student clubs and organizations. Some of these are the Black Student Union, Games and Education Club, Genesian Players, Gay/ Straight Alliance, Country Club, International Student Organization, New Order of Artists, Psychology Club, Psi Chi, Outdoor Club, Radio Lobo, Sociology Club, Student Wisconsin Education Association and Students in Free Enterprise.

Housing and MealsCardinal Stritch provides on-campus housing for 325 of its 5,399 (full-time) students (as of 2007). Students may purchase a meal plan which includes 21 meals weekly.
