Carthage College

Carthage College was established in 1847 and was named The Literary and Theological Institute of the Lutheran Church of the Far West. It was founded by German Lutherans. At that time, the college was situated in Hillsboro, Illinois, United States. Later, in 1852, it was relocated to Springfield, Illinois, and operated as Illinois State University. The college closed in 1869 and reopened in 1870 as Carthage College. This time, the college was located in Carthage, Illinois. In 1962, the college moved to its present location in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Carthage College is organized into the following academic divisions:

  • Division of Social Sciences

Carthage College has an active Greek Life. It is home to approximately 15 sororities and fraternities including Beta Phi Epsilon, Tau Delta Psi, Delta Omega Nu, Tau Sigma Phi, Kappa Phi Eta, Phi Kappa Sigma, Sigma Alpha Chi, Delta Upsilon, Pi Theta, Sigma Omega Sigma, Alpha Chi Omega, and Delta Sigma Theta.
