Central Connecticut State University

Central Connecticut State University, also known as CCSU, is a state university in New Britain, Connecticut. It was established in 1849 and is the oldest public university. CCSU ranks third oldest of all universities in Connecticut. The campus is spread across an area of 165 acres.

CCSU offers a wide variety of degrees and programs in diverse areas of study. The university is organized into the following academic divisions:

  • School of Graduate Studies

CCSU is notable for its politically active student body. The Progressive Student Alliance (PSA) serves students who are left-leaning/liberal. The organization has been active since 2002 and has hosted numerous forums, guest speakers, protests, and other events. Their official mascot is the Blue Devil.

Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Northeast Conference for major sports.

The school offers financial aid for athletes. Of students receiving athletic financial aid, 97 male students received the aid (men were 54% of those receiving aid) and 82 women were awarded financial aid based on athletics (representing 46% of students receiving such aid) .
