Overview

Chapman University is a private, co-educational university located in Orange County, California. It was founded as Hesperian College in 1861. Its first classes were held on March 4, 1861, on the exact hour of President Abraham Lincoln's inauguration. The College was renamed Chapman University in 1934, in honor of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Charles C. Chapman. The University offers admission to more than 5,000 students every year.
