Chapman University was originally established as Hesperian College and begab operating in March, 1861. Its opening was deliberately timed to fall in the hour of President Lincoln’s inauguration. The California Christian College bought Hesperian College in 1920 and named after C.C. Chapman in 1934, its primary benefactor and chairman of the board of trustees. Though it’s related to the Christian Church, it admits students from all backgrounds. Chapman University is comprised of four colleges and four schools:
- School of Law
- Argyros School of Business and Economics
- Lawrence and Kristina Dodge College of Film and Media Arts
- College of Performing Arts
- Schmid College of Science
- Wilkinson College of Humanities and Social Sciences
- University College
