Citadel Military College of South Carolina, also referred to as The Citadel, is a state-supported, comprehensive college located in Charleston, South Carolina, United States. It was founded in the year 1842. The Citadel has more than 12 academic departments organized into 5 schools that offer over 15 majors and more than 20 minors. Kiplinger's magazine ranked The Citadel among its "Best Values in Public Colleges" for the year 2006. The campus, which spreads across an area of 300 acres, consists of more than 25 buildings. It also includes a ten-acre grass parade ground.
