Overview
Colgate University, also known as Gate, is a privately-run, liberal arts university located in Hamilton, New York, United States. It was established in 1819 as the Baptist Education Society. In 1846, it was renamed Madison University and finally became Colgate University in 1890. However, it was only in 1970 that the university became coeducational. The institute today has an enormous campus spanning across more than 1,500 acres of rural land. It grants admission to more than 2,000 students every year.
