Overview
The College of Charleston, or C of C, was established in 1770 and was chartered on March 19, 1785. In fact, it is the oldest college of South Carolina. The first president of the college was Robert Smith. In 1837, C of C became the first municipal college in the nation. In 1971, the college was included in the U.S. Department of the Interior's National Register of Historic Places. C of C offers a number of degree and certificate programs and is organized into the following academic units:

- School of Languages, Cultures and World Affairs

C of C offers an active Greek life. There are several fraternities and sororities which are governed by the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, and Panhellenic Council. Some of these organizations are Alpha Phi Alpha, Omega Psi Phi, Sigma Nu, Kappa Alpha Order, Kappa Alpha Theta, and Sigma Gamma Rho.
