College of the Atlantic (COA), established in 1969, is a private, four-year college. The college is located on Mount Desert Island in Bar Harbor, Maine. The institute grants bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the field of human ecology. COA also offers several summer and study abroad programs.
College of the Atlantic has the second highest percentage of international students in the country. Of its total enrollment, international students make up 17%. The college offers financial aid in the form of grants and scholarships, including the Shelby Davis Scholarship. Some of the notable alumni of COA are Amy Goodman, journalist; Nell Newman, environmentalist; and Chellie Pingree, US Congresswoman.
