Overview
College of the Desert, or COD, was founded in 1958. The first class was held in 1962, and the college gained accreditation in 1966. The college campus covers more than 160 acres in Palm Desert, California. As of Fall 2008, COD had more than 11,400 students. The college presently enrolls over 55% Hispanic students, approximately 29% White students, 3% African American, about 4% Asian/Pacific Islander, and 1% American Indian students. The academic divisions of COD are as follows:
