Overview

College of the Siskiyous, also called COS, was established in 1957 as a result of a special election. Classes began in the college's present location in September 1959. A mistake often made about the college's name is that it was named after Siskiyou County. In reality, COS was named after the Siskiyou Mountains that run beside the California-Oregon border and are referred to as "the Siskiyous".

While the College of the Siskiyous provides comprehensive education in traditional areas, it also offers certificates and degrees in Media Communications, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Theatre, and Music. In addition, it offers nursing programs including a LPN to RN step up program. The college is also renowned for its fire academy which is considered one of the best in California. The college’s athletic mascot is the Eagle.
