Concordia Seminary, which was established by a group of German emigrants in 1839, was initially located in Perry County, Missouri. In 1926, Concordia Seminary moved to its present 72-acre campus in the Clayton suburb in St. Louis, Missouri. It is one of the oldest Lutheran seminaries in the United States, and is owned by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
Concordia Seminary awards the Master of Arts, Master of Sacred Theology, Master of Divinity, Doctor of Philosophy, and Doctor of Ministry degrees. A number of certificate programs are also available. The seminary operates the following divisions:
- Center for Hispanic Studies
- Deaf Institute of Theology
- Ethnic Immigrant Institute of Theology
- Graduate School
- Sign School
Concordia Seminary provides financial assistance to its students through various Federal grants, Stafford loans, and work-study programs. The institute also fields a number of intercollegiate, club, and intramural sports teams in basketball, cycling, golf, cross country, soccer, flag football, volleyball, weightlifting, ultimate Frisbee, racquetball, and tennis.
