Cottey College is located in Nevada, Missouri. This private, two-year, women’s college was established in 1884 by Virginia Alice Cottey Stockard. The institution was originally known as the Vemon Seminary, but was renamed Cottey College in 1886. The college currently grants associate’s degrees in humanities and science, along with offering summer programs and online courses. Its campus is spread across an area of 66 acres.
The athletics department of Cottey College competes in Region XVI of the National Junior College Athletic Association. Students participate in intercollegiate sports like basketball, volleyball, softball and swimming. Athletics teams at Cottey are nicknamed the Comets.
