Overview
Bernard M. Baruch College, popularly referred to as Baruch College, is a coeducational, public university located in New York City, New York, United States. It is one of the constituent colleges comprising the City University of New York (CUNY). It was established in 1919 under the name "Free Academy". It was renamed to its present moniker and brought under the CUNY system in 1968.
The student body comprises students from more than 150 different countries. The student population includes Asians, Asian-Americans, Hispanics, and many other minorities.
The athletic teams of Baruch College are called the Bearcats. The official mascot is the Bearcat. The College sponsors baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, and volleyball.
Notable alumni of the College include Ralph Lauren, Chairman and CEO of Polo Ralph Lauren; Jennifer Lopez, actress/singer/dancer; William F. Aldinger III, Chairman and CEO of HSBC North America Holdings; and Nora McAniff, co-chief operating officer of Time Inc.
