Overview
Hunter College of the City University of New York was established in 1870 as the Normal College, a teacher-training school for young women. Thomas Hunter, an Irish immigrant and social reformer, was founder of the college. The college adopted its current name in 1914 and became a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY). Presently, Hunter College has over 100 undergraduate and graduate programs. The college is organized into several academic divisions such as:

Hunter College officially recognized a number of fraternities and sororities including a chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a few African-American fraternities, Zeta Phi Alpha, Mu Sigma Upsilon, Delta Pi Sigma, Kappa Sigma, and Alpha Sigma.
