Overview

Kingsborough Community College, or KCC, was established in 1963. The first class was held in 1964 and consisted of 468 students. It is the only community college in Brooklyn, New York, and is part of the City University of New York system (CUNY). KCC covers more than 70 acres in Brooklyn and overlooks Jamaica Bay, Sheepshead Bay, and the Atlantic Ocean. The college attracts students from over 160 countries.

KCC offers a number of degree and certificate programs. Some of the academic divisions of the college are the department of behavioral sciences and human services, communications and performing arts, mathematics and computer science, and tourism and the hospitality department. KCC also offers CUNY Scholarships including the Vallone Scholarships and Safety Net Scholarships.

Some of the notable alumni of KCC are Josanne Lopez, Senior Producer and Director of Program Development CNN; Larry Seabrook, New York State Senator; and Donald Kurtz, New York State Supreme Court Justice.
