Overview
Lehman College was established in 1931 as the Bronx campus of Hunter College. In 1968, it became an independent college. It is administered by the City University of New York (CUNY) system. The college was named for Herbert Lehman, the former New York governor and an U.S senator. Lehman College's campus covers more than 35 acres in Bronx, New York, and is located near the Jerome Park Reservoir.
Lehman College has over 90 undergraduate and graduate degree programs and is divided into various academic units. Some of these are journalism, communication and theatre, counseling, leadership, literacy and special education, physics and astronomy, and mathematics and computer science. Scholarships offered by the college include the Lehman College Academic Scholarship, Native American Scholarship Aid, Peter F. Vallone Academic Scholarship, and many more.
There are a wide variety of active student organizations at Lehman College including the National Association of Black Accountants, African Students Association, Italian Club, Musical Performance Club, and Student Theatre Association.
