Overview
New York City College of Technology, or NYCCT, was founded in 1946 as New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences. It was renamed to New York City Community College in 1953 and became the first community college of the city. The college became part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system in 1964. It was named New York City Technical College (City Tech) in 1980. NYCCT adopted its current name in 2000.
The college offers approximately 60 technical and professional programs. Some of the academic departments of NYCCT are electrical engineering technology, art and advertising design, microcomputer business systems, computer engineering technology, and construction management. The college also offers many scholarships including the Benjamin Namm Memorial Scholarship, Helena Rubinstein Foundation Scholarship, City Tech NSF Technology Scholarship, and many more.
Some of the student organizations of NYCCT include the Accounting Society, Career and Technology Education Society, Gamma Epsilon Tau, International Students Club, Chinese Cultural Club, and Latin Dance and Recreation Club.
