Dakota State University, also known as DSU, is located in Madison, South Dakota, United States. It was established in 1881 as Madison Normal School and became the first school dedicated to train teachers in the Dakota Territory. As of the fall 2007 semester, the university's total enrollment was more than 2,000 students.
The university focuses on programs in business, computers, physical sciences, education, and other undergraduate and graduate programs. DSU is organized into the following academic colleges:

Dakota State University is home to numerous clubs and organizations. Some of them are the Alpha Rho Theta (ART Club), Health Information Management Club, Phi Beta Lambda (Business Club), and Phi Eta Sigma (Freshmen Honor Society).

Undergrads are 79% of enrolled students and graduate students are 21%. About 1% of freshmen are from countries other than the US. Students living in the US make up 99% of incoming freshmen. Among freshmen students, 91% are full-time and 9% are part-time.

Housing and MealsDakota State provides on-campus housing for 686 of its 2,260 (full-time) students (as of 2008-2009). The school requires freshmen to live on campus.
AthleticsSchool sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Dakota Athletic Conference for major sports. The school offers financial aid for athletes. Of students receiving athletic financial aid, 61 male students received the aid (men were 56% of those receiving aid) and 47 women were awarded financial aid based on athletics (representing 44% of students receiving such aid) .
