Overview

The Dallas Institute of Funeral Service was founded in 1900 by Dr. Carl Barnes as the Barnes School of Anatomy, Sanitary Science and Embalming. It became the Dallas School of Embalming in 1908 and the Dallas Institute-Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science in March of 1954. The Kentucky School of Mortuary Science joined the organization in 1972 and the Indiana College of Mortuary Science followed in 1978. The institute is located in Dallas, Texas. It offers degrees and programs in funeral service merchandising, accounting, funeral service management, funeral service sociology, grief psychology and funeral service law.

The Dallas Institute of Funeral Service offers a chapter of Pi Sigma Eta to its students.
