Overview

Davidson College was founded by Presbyterians in 1837 and still maintains an affiliation with them. It was named after Brigadier General William Lee Davidson who served as a commander in the Revolutionary War. The land on which the college was established came from the General’s estate. Davidson College offers majors in more than twenty fields, as well as many minors and self-designed inter-disciplinary options. Apart from the one major which is required for graduation, students of Davidson College have the option to pursue a second major, a minor, or even a concentration.

Davidson College has been regularly ranked among the top ten liberal arts colleges by U.S. News and World Report magazine and has graduated more than 20 Rhodes Scholars. Over 150 student organizations are present on campus and they include arts & culture organizations, sports groups, performance groups, health & sexuality groups, political organizations, social action groups, and religious organizations. Greek organizations include Sigma Phi Epsilon, Pi Kappa Alpha, Kappa Alpha Order, Phi Gamma Delta, Phi Delta Theta, Kappa Sigma, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Kappa Alp, and Kappa Alpha Psi. The College’s sports teams are called the Wildcats.

Room and Board
