Des Moines University, also known as DMU, was founded in 1898 as the Dr. S.S. Still College of Osteopathy. The campus of the university sits atop an area of over 20 acres. The university is organized into the following colleges:
- College of Osteopathic Medicine
- College of Podiatry Medicine
- College of Surgery
Des Moines University has an active student life and is home to several clubs and organizations including American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, American College of Foot & Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine, The Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, International Medical Club, and Holistic Medicine Club among others. The Student Government Associations also plays an active role in the overall development of the students.
