Overview

Durham Technical Community College is a public two-year institution of technical training and higher education. It is a member of the North Carolina Community College System. DTCC was originally founded as the Durham Industrial Education Center on September 5, 1961. The name was changed to Durham Technical Institute on March 30, 1965. It finally became the Durham Technical Community College on July 22, 1986.

Apart from its main campus in downtown Durham, DTCC also offers classes in northern Durham County and Orange County. Over 25,000 credit as well as non-credit students enroll in DTCC every year. Associates degrees in arts, science, applied science and general education, along with several diplomas and certificate programs are offered by this college.

Students at DTCC enjoy an active community life. There are several clubs and organizations that are sanctioned by the college. These include the Amigos Unidos (Spanish Club), Gamers of Durham, Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society, International Students Club, Phi Beta Lambda, Science Club, Tau Eta Signa and Women's Leadership Initiative, among others.
