Overview

East Carolina University, also referred to as "ECU" or "East Carolina", is a public, coeducational, research university. It is located in Greenville, North Carolina, United States. It was originally founded on March 8, 1907, as East Carolina Teachers Training School. It was renamed East Carolina Teachers College in 1920. It was then re-christened as East Carolina College in 1951. FInally, it was awarded university status and christened as East Carolina University on July 1, 1972. The University campus stretches over more than 1300 acres of urban land.
