Overview

East Los Angeles College, also referred to as ELAC, is a coeducational, community college belonging to the Los Angeles Community College District. It is located in the Los Angeles suburb of Monterey Park, six miles from the Los Angeles Civic Center. The College was established in 1945.

The student population is cosmopolitan in nature and comprises of whites, Hispanics, Asians, Asian-Americans, etc. The College offers many scholarships to its students, irrespective of their origins.

The official mascot of the college sports team is The Husky.

Notable alumni of the college include Antonio Villaraigosa, Mayor of Los Angeles; Leroy D. Baca, Sheriff of Los Angeles; Art Torres, Chairman of the California Democratic Party; Bob Pacheco, Former 60th District Assemblyman; and Gloria Molina, Los Angeles County Supervisor.
