Overview
East Tennessee State University, also referred to as ETSU, was established on October 2, 1911. The university was originally named East Tennessee State Normal School and was renamed to East Tennessee State Teachers College in 1925. It became East Tennessee State College in 1943 and gained university status in 1963. The main campus of ETSU is spread over 300 acres in Johnson City, Tennessee. In addition, there are several small off-campus centers in Bristol, Greeneville, Kingsport, and Elizabethton in Tennessee. The academic units of ETSU include the following schools and colleges:

ETSU features many Greek organizations. There are approximately seven Interfraternity Councils including Lambda Chi Alpha, Sigma Nu, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Kappa Sigma, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and Sigma Chi. In addition, the university has recognized several Panhellenic Councils including Kappa Delta, Alpha Delta Pi, and Alpha Xi Delta.
ETSU athletic teams are nicknamed the Buccaneers and compete in the NCAA Division I. They are members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The men's sports include track and field, baseball, cross country, basketball, tennis, and golf. The women’s sports include softball, basketball, track and field, golf, volleyball, cross country, tennis, and soccer.
