Eastern Illinois University

Eastern Illinois University, or EIU, is a state university located in Charleston, Illinois, United States. It was established in 1895 as Eastern Illinois State Normal School. It gradually grew from a two-year degree institution to a provider of baccalaureate and master degree programs. The university enrolls more than 12,000 students. In US News & World Report college rankings, EIU is classified as a Masters university.

Eastern Illinois University offers a wide variety of degrees and programs in diverse areas of study. The university is organized into the following academic divisions:

Housing and Meals

Eastern Illinois University provides on-campus housing for 5,471 of its 11,250 (full-time) students (as of 2008-2009). The school requires freshmen to live on campus.

Students may purchase a meal plan which includes 15 meals weekly.
