Overview
Eastern Illinois University, or EIU, is a state university located in Charleston, Illinois, United States. It was established in 1895 as Eastern Illinois State Normal School. It gradually grew from a two-year degree institution to a provider of baccalaureate and master degree programs. The university enrolls more than 12,000 students. In US News & World Report college rankings, EIU is classified as a Masters university.
