Overview
Eckerd College, also known as EC, is located in St. Petersburg, Florida, United States. It was founded in 1958 as Florida Presbyterian College. The college's first president was William Kadel. The first classes were held in 1960 with 155 students and 22 faculty members. It moved to its present location in 1963. It was renamed Eckerd College in 1972 after Jack M. Eckerd. The campus spreads overs an area of more than 180 acres.
EC students can become involved in more than 50 clubs and organizations including Amnesty International, Bike Club, Student Alumni Club, Creative Writing Club, International Student Association, Tofun Club, Orthodox Christian Fellowship, Alliance of Concerned Individuals, and Omicron Delta Kappa. The college also publishes a student newspaper called "The Triton."
EC's athletic teams participate in the Sunshine State Conference and are a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA Division II). They are called the Tritons.
