Emory and Henry College was founded in 1836 in Emory, Virginia. It is the oldest college in Southwest Virginia. This college was named after Bishop John Emory, a reputed church leader, and Patrick Henry, a celebrated patriot of the American Revolution and Virginia's first governor. The college offers degrees and certificate programs in different fields of study including mass communications, computer information management, education, business administration, biology and environmental studies.
Emory and Henry College has an active Greek life with fraternities and sororities of Beta Lambda Zeta, Delta Omicron Pi, Sigma Upsilon Nu, Alpha Beta Chi, and Delta Rho Delta. The other student clubs and organizations include the American Chemical Society, the Commuter Student Organization, College Republicans, Rainbow Connection and Students for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
