Overview
Emporia State University was initially established as the Kansas State Normal in 1863. In 1974, the name was changed to Emporia Kansas State College, which ultimately became the Emporia State University in 1977. The campus sits on 212 acres of land and offers enrollment to more than 4,000 graduates and over 1,000 postgraduate students every year. ESU consists of the following schools and colleges:
- College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
- School of Business
- School of Library and Information Management
- The Teachers College
ESU offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in various areas of study. Some of the departments of the university include business administration and education, accounting and computer information systems, art, English, communication and theatre, mathematics, computer science and economics, modern languages and literatures, special education and school counseling.
The sports teams of ESU are known as the Hornets and participate in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, tennis, track, volleyball, soccer and softball.

Athletics
