Fairmont State University, established in 1865, is located in Fairmont, West Virginia. It was founded as West Virginia Normal School, and was nicknamed Fairmont State Normal School in 1867. The university given the name Fairmont State College in 1943. Today the school serves more than 7,000 students.
FSU’s campus covers nearly 120 acres. The university has a branch campus located in Clarksburg, the Gaston Caperton Center. FSU offers masters degrees, baccalaureate degrees and associate degrees in diverse areas of study.

Housing and MealsFairmont State provides on-campus housing for 1,058 of its 3,936 (full-time) students (as of 2007). The school requires freshmen to live on campus. Students may purchase a meal plan which includes 19 meals weekly.
Fairmont State AthleticsSchool sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. Fairmont State is in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for major sports. Fairmont State offers financial aid for athletes.
