Florida International University is a public research university located in Miami, Florida, founded in 1965. FIU is the youngest university to be awarded a Phi Beta Kappa chapter by the Phi Beta Kappa Society. Undergrads are 80% of enrolled students, graduate students are 19%, and those seeking first-professional graduate degrees represent 1%. About 17% of freshmen are from countries other than the US. Students living in the US make up 83% of incoming freshmen. Among freshmen students, 59% are full-time and 41% are part-time.

AthleticsSchool sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Sun Belt Conference for major sports. The school offers financial aid for athletes.
