Overview

Gannon University is located in Erie, Pennsylvania, United States. It was established as Cathedral College under the Villa Maria College charter of 1925. Later on, the name changed to Gannon College of Arts and Sciences and then changed to Gannon College in 1944. It achieved university status in 1979. Villa Maria College, the all-girls school founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph, merged with the university in 1989. Gannon University enrolls more than 4,000 students on an annual basis. The university offers students a variety of health science and engineering programs through its three colleges:

  • College of Engineering and Business
  • College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences
  • Morosky College of Health Professions and Sciences

Gannon University has a large number of student organizations including the Student Government Association, Alpha Phi Sigma, Beta Beta Beta, Environmental Club, and GU Students for Life. Male students participate in sports such as football, swimming, basketball, and soccer. Female students participate in golf, cross country, basketball, and volleyball.

Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference for major sports.
