Overview
Georgetown University is a private Jesuit university located in the Georgetown section of Washington, D.C. It was established as Georgetown College by Father John Carroll, in 1789, the same year as the U.S. Constitution. But the school's history dates back to 1634.
Georgetown University is the nation's oldest Catholic university. Today, the school is a major international research university with a diverse student body.
The main campus is known for the famous Healy Hall and spreads across an area of 104 acres.
The U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools for 2010 ranks the Law Center as No. 14 in the country. The Law Center retained its No. 1 rank among top clinical training programs and in part-time law programs. McDonough School of Business moved up three spots in MBA rankings to No. 19 in 2009.

More than 300 international undergraduates attend Georgetown annually for study abroad. The university is home to more than 170 registered student organizations and has an active Greek life--with several fraternities and sororities.
Georgetown University has 27 Hoya teams competing in NCAA Division I Athletics as members of the Big East Conference and Patriot League. The Hoyas have nationally recognized programs in men's and women's basketball and lacrosse and men's soccer.
