Overview

Germanna Community College, or GCC, serves Fredericksburg, Virginia and the nearby counties of Caroline, Culpeper, King George, Madison, Orange, Spotsylvania and Stafford. It has a Fredericksburg area campus on 70 acres near the intersection of Interstate 95 at Routes 1 and 17 South. The school also has its Daniel Technology Center, Locust Grove Campus, and Stafford Counter Center that all offer for-credit classes.

The school's academics include: Arts & Sciences; Nursing & Health Technologies, and Professional & Technical Studies.

The school's name goes back to 1714, when German miners and their families established a settlement at Germanna Ford on the Rapidan River. The decision to found the school took place in 1969 shortly after the Virginia legislature created a community college system. The school was given its name in recognition of 100 acres donated for its campus by the Memorial Foundation of Germanna Colonies. Germanna began its first classes in the fall of 1970. Its Fredricksburg campus opened in 1997 followed by the Joseph R. Daniel Technology Center in 2006.
