Governors State University was established on July 17, 1969. The university's campus sits on an area of around 750 acres in University Park, Illinois. The Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park also lies within the university's campus. GSU is an upper-division university that grants several degrees in bachelors, masters and doctorate levels. It is divided into the following colleges:
- College of Arts and Sciences

- College of Health and Human Services
A large number of student clubs and organizations exist at GSU.
