Overview

Harris-Stowe State University, also known as HSSU, is located in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. It was founded in 1857 as a normal school. Later on, it became Harris Teachers College. It was named after William Torrey Harris, a United States Commissioner of Education. In 1954, the college merged with Stowe Teachers College, which was established in 1890. It became Harris-Stowe State College in 1979. The college obtained university status on August 25, 2005, and settled on its present name. It is made up of the following academic units:

Some of the student organizations of HSSU are the Student Government Association, Campus Religious Life, Gospel Choir, HSSU Honeycomb Majorettes Dance Team, African American Studies Society, Student Community Service Corps, American College of Healthcare Executives, Kappa Delta Pi, Sigma Tau Gamma, Zeta Phi Beta, and Students In Free Enterprise.
