Overview

The Haskell Indian Nations University was founded as the United States Indian Industrial Training School in 1884. In 1887, the institute was renamed Haskell Institute. The name was changed again in 1970, and finally became the Haskell Indian Nations University in 1993. HINU is located in Lawrence, Kansas, and offers enrollment to more than 1,000 students annually.

Haskell Indian Nations University offers associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in arts and science. The academic divisions of the university are:

Students of HINU are members of organizations like the Haskell Ecology Club and the Dine' Club. The school’s athletics department sponsors men’s and women’s teams in basketball, cross country, softball, track, football and volleyball.
