Overview

Hofstra University is a private, nonsectarian, coeducational institution of higher learning located on Long Island, New York, United States. It was established in 1935. It began as a college of New York University and, in 1937, became an independent school called Hofstra College. It gained university status in 1963.

Hofstra University comprises more than 125 buildings spread across an area of 240 acres. There are over 15 eateries on campus. The university offers a wide variety of degrees and programs through different academic divisions:

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Colonial Athletic Association for major sports.
