Overview

Howard Community College was founded in 1966 by the Board of Education in Howard County. The first classes were held in October of 1970, when around 600 students were enrolled here. The college is also referred to as HCC. The college encompasses around 120 acres in Columbia, Maryland. Presently, the college offers more than 100 academic programs and is organized into the following departments:

  • Social Sciences/ Teacher Education

The student organizations and clubs of HCC include the Agape Campus Christian Fellowship, Christian Fellowship Club, German Silent Film, HCC Moviemaker's Club, Phi Theta Kappa, Engineering Club, Water Polo Club, Muslim Student Association, the Hellenic Student Association and the Jewish Student Union.

HCC is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association. Its athletic teams include men’s and women’s track and cross country, women's soccer, volleyball and basketball, and men's lacrosse and basketball.
