Humboldt State University

Humboldt State University is the northernmost campus of the California State University system. It was founded on June 16, 1913 by the then-California Governor Hiram Johnson. HSU is located in Arcata within Humboldt County, California. The university offers more than 45 undergraduate majors and over 80 minors. It is organized into the following academic units:

  • College of Arts, Humanities, & Social Sciences
  • College of Natural Resources & Sciences
  • College of Professional Studies

Humboldt State has an active Greek system. It includes the national fraternity Chi Phi and the national sorority Delta Phi Epsilon. The campus is home to several student clubs and organizations as well. Its sports teams are nicknamed the Lumberjacks.

Housing and Meals

Humboldt State provides on-campus housing for 1,612 of its 7,237 (full-time) students (as of 2008-2009).

Students may purchase a meal plan which includes 19 meals weekly.

Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference for major sports.

The school offers financial aid for athletes. Of students receiving athletic financial aid, 75 male students received the aid (men were 46% of those receiving aid) and 89 women were awarded financial aid based on athletics (representing 54% of students receiving such aid) .
