Overview
Huntingdon College was established as the Tuskegee Female College in 1854 in Montgomery, Alabama. It was renamed the Alabama Conference Female College in 1872. In 1910, the college moved to a 58-acre plot in Montgomery's Cloverdale section, and was again renamed the Woman's College of Alabama. It assumed its present name in 1934 after admitting its first male student.
The campus of Huntingdon College is spread across an area of 71 acres. The college offers a liberal arts core curriculum leading to a wide range of pre-professional programs and academic majors. Teacher certification programs are also offered for elementary, secondary and P-12 levels. Huntingdon College is best known for its programs in the areas of business and science.
Huntingdon College is a member of the NCAA-Division III, and sponsors athletic teams in a variety of sports, which are known as the Hawks. The college also operates over 50 student organizations, including fraternities and sororities like Sigma Phi Epsilon, Kappa Alpha Psi, Alpha Omicron Pi and Alpha Kappa Alpha. The Princeton Review has ranked Huntington College as a "Best Value" college, and as one of the best liberal arts colleges in the Southeast.
