Overview
The Illinois Institute of Technology was created in 1890 as the Armour Institute of Technology. In 1940, the institute merged with Lewis Institute and formed IIT. The main campus of IIT sits upon more than 100 acres in Chicago, Illinois. Apart from its main campus, the institute also has a downtown campus in Chicago, the Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Campus in Wheaton and the Moffett Campus in Summit-Argo. IIT is organized into the following academic divisions:

Greek organizations play a very active role at IIT. Some of the active on-campus chapters are Phi Kappa Sigma, Alpha Sigma Phi, Delta Tau Delta, Omega Delta, Kappa Phi Delta, Pi Kappa Phi, Zeta Pi Omega and Triangle.
Some of the notable alumni of IIT are Valdas Adamkus, the President of the Republic of Lithuania; Jamshyd Godrej, the Indian Industrialist; James G. Roche, the former U.S. Secretary of the Air Force; and Jack Steinberger, the Nobel Laureate physicist.
