Indiana State University, or ISU, was established on December 20, 1865, as the State Normal School. It was renamed to Indiana State Teachers College in 1929 and became Indiana State College in 1961. Later, in 1965, ISU was awarded university status and adopted its current name. The university is spread over 230 acres in Terre Haute, Indiana. Presently, ISU offers more than 100 degree and certificate programs. The academic units of Indiana State University are organized into the following schools and colleges:

- College of Nursing, Health, and Human Services
- College of Technology
- School of Graduate Studies
ISU has more than 25 fraternities and sororities governed by the Interfraternity Council, Pan-Hellenic Council, and Panhellenic Association. It also has recognized the Order of Omega, the Fraternity and Sorority honor society. Other student organizations and clubs of ISU are the American Humanics Student Association, Black Student Union, Christian Student Fellowship, Fashion Merchandising Association, and many more.

Housing and MealsIndiana State provides on-campus housing for 3,312 of its 9,322 (full-time) students (as of 2008-2009). The school requires freshmen to live on campus.
AthleticsSchool sports include football (Gateway Football Conference), basketball (Missouri Valley Conference), baseball (Missouri Valley Conference), and track (Missouri Valley Conference). The school offers financial aid for athletes.
