Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis, or IUPUI, was established in 1969 as a partnership between Indiana and Purdue Universities. Indiana University was the managing partner. IUPUI covers more than 500 acres of land in Indianapolis, Indiana. IUPUI is organized into the following schools and colleges:

The athletic teams of IUPUI are known as the Jaguars and they compete in The Summit League at the Division I level. IUPUI sponsors men's teams in soccer, basketball, tennis, cross country and golf; and women’s teams in cross country, tennis and volleyball.
Some of the most famous alumni of IUPUI are Dan Quayle, the former Vice President of USA; Julia Carson, the former Indiana congresswoman; and David Wolf, the NASA astronaut.

IUPUI StudentsThe student enrollment at IUPUI was 29,854 in 2007 (22,838 full-time equivalent). About 40% of the freshmen class in 2007 was male and women were 60% of the class. Undergrads are 71% of enrolled students, graduate students are 22%, and those seeking first-professional graduate degrees represent 7%. About 4% of freshmen are from countries other than the US. IUPUI AthleticsIUPUI is in the Mid-Continent Conference for major sports. IUPUI offers financial aid for athletes. Of students receiving athletic financial aid, 85 male students received the aid (men were 45% of those receiving aid) and 102 women were awarded financial aid based on athletics (representing 55% of students receiving such aid) .
