Overview

Indiana University/Purdue University-Indianapolis, or IUPUI, was established in 1969 as a partnership between Indiana and Purdue Universities. Indiana University was the managing partner. IUPUI covers more than 500 acres of land in Indianapolis, Indiana. IUPUI is organized into the following schools and colleges:

The athletic teams of IUPUI are known as the Jaguars and they compete in The Summit League at the Division I level. IUPUI sponsors men's teams in soccer, basketball, tennis, cross country and golf; and womenÕs teams in cross country, tennis and volleyball.

Some of the most famous alumni of IUPUI are Dan Quayle, the former Vice President of USA; Julia Carson, the former Indiana congresswoman; and David Wolf, the NASA astronaut. Other famous alumni include:

  • Norman Bridwell (Herron 1950) - author and illustrator of Clifford the Big Red Dog
  • Julia Carson (Law 1963) - former Indiana congresswoman
  • Vija Celmins (Herron 1961) - fine art painter and printmaker
