Overview

Jackson State University, also referred to as Jackson State or JSU, was established in 1877 and is a historically black university. It was founded as a small college for African Americans. In its first year, JSU enrolled only 20 students. At present, the university offers more than 90 degree programs. JSU's campus covers more than 170 acres in Jackson, Mississippi. The academic divisions of JSU are organized into the following colleges:

JSU officially recognized several Pan Hellenic Councils including Omega Psi Phi, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sigma Gamma Rho, Alpha Phi Alpha, and Iota Phi Theta. In addition, the university has other student organizations such as the Baptist Student Union, Karate Club, Student National Education Association, Technology Club, and many more.
